A resident told police Aug. 17 that she was to receive two new cell phones through an insurance claim. She was told the phones had been delivered to her home and placed next to a trash can. She checked but did not see them.

She contacted the company, who then sent the employee who had delivered the original package back to her home. The employee provided her with a ripped-open package with only one phone inside.

She questioned the employee about the package and phone, but did not get a response. The company gave the victim a claim number and told her to file a police report.

Police received a call from Serenity Health & Wellness at 3 p.m. Aug. 15 about an ex-employee who had broken windows of a van in the parking lot.

Another employee witnessed the incident. She said the man had come into her office asking about his paycheck. He felt he was unpaid for the last two days he had worked. He was told he did not work those days.

He was visibly upset and left the building. She then heard glass breaking, looked out the window and saw the man “smashing” windows of a van with a bat. She ran out and saw him leave. That’s when she called police.

The suspect smashed 10 of the van’s 11 windows, causing extensive damage. The owner of the van originally wanted to pursue criminal action, but later declined. She planned to follow up with her insurance company.

Warrant: Old Pleasant Valley Road

An officer at 10:40 p.m. Aug. 12 went to a residence about a truck that had run out of gas and was left in the private driveway.

A woman was in the front passenger seat. She said she and her boyfriend, the truck’s owner, were heading to a friend’s house when the truck ran out of gas. He pulled into a driveway to get off the road. He then started walking to his friend’s house to get gas.

The officer learned that the passenger had an active warrant. She was taken to a location for transfer to the other jurisdiction. Some officers stayed at the scene until the truck owner arrived and drove away.

An officer went to the Crowne Plaza Hotel Aug. 12 about someone stealing envelopes containing checks. The thief removed a glass window from an office and took the envelopes, which contained $3,500.

The envelopes were from a temporary agency that employs housekeeping staff. The agency said it would reimburse the missing money. It was unsure whether the agency wanted to pursue theft charges.

A resident told police Aug. 17 that she had traveled to Alabama in early June through July. Before she left, she received a $2,800 traveler’s check, but did not cash it. On June 15, it was cashed in Ohio for the full amount.

On June 21, a $745 withdrawal was made from her account.

She did not know who cashed the check or made the withdrawal. She contacted her bank about the incident and was told to file a police report for documentation purposes while it was investigated.
