Two seasonal workers from Mexico were arrested and charged after the murder of 23-year-old Abraham Olvera on Saturday night in Marietta.

Marietta Police Capt. Ryan Huffman said there was a “large language barrier” and the police “received significant assistance from an uninvolved, non-law enforcement, community member serving as an interpreter, as all of the involved parties were foreign nationals with limited English language proficiency.”

The two suspects, Isaac Hernandez Diaz, 34, and his brother, Oscar Hernandez Diaz, 41, apparently lived in the same apartment complex on Dale Street, Marietta, according to Police Chief Aaron Nedeff.

Some time Saturday night, there was a physical altercation in the parking lot of the complex between Isaac Diaz and the brother of Olvera, according to police reports. The two suspects reportedly went back to to their apartment, where Oscar armed himself with a katana-style sword, according to police.

The brothers reportedly returned to the residence where Olvera lived with his family. Officials said Isaac armed himself with a wooden stake and the two began breaking the windows of Olvera’s apartment.

Nedeff said three people were attacked during the incident — Olvera, his brother and his father.

“They shattered glass out of every window,” he said. “There was a pretty good cut on the arm of one of them from smashing out the windows … and throwing blood all over the place. There was blood all over the complex.”

Nedeff said they were hitting the windows with “a wooden staff and katana-style sword.”

“The victim was in front of the window, the sword went through the window and stabbed him in the chest,” he said.

Police said after every window was broken, the suspects reportedly returned to their apartment. The sword reportedly used during the incident was found inside the apartment of the suspects, police said.

Upon arrival, police located Olvera inside the apartment where he was receiving medical attention from a family member. He was transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead.

Nedeff said the suspects were in the area on a temporary summer work visa. They were hired by a local family to do seasonal work.

The brothers had no other family in the area, but they worked with Olvera. Nedeff said the victim was from a small town outside Mexico City.

Oscar Hernandez Diaz was charged with one count of murder and Isaac Hernandez Diaz was charged with one count of complicity in the murder of Olvera, police said.
