She-Hulk episode 2 had a witty way of acknowledging the ending of MCU's Eternals, which saw a "giant statue of a man sticking out of the ocean."

Spoiler Warning: MCU's Eternals

The MCU has finally acknowledged the end of Eternals. And this time, it was we who didn’t notice. Many Marvel fans have wondered how long it would have been for an Earth-shaking ending to Eternals to affect the Marvel Universe. It’s been quite some time. And many big MCU movies have since been released and act like Eternals didn’t even exist. Perhaps Eternals wasn’t the most popular MCU movie, but it certainly wasn’t one just to be ignored. Fans have wondered if Marvel executives were just trying to sweep the film under the rug and act like it never happened.

Eternals did have a lot of consequences, though. It came with Easter eggs and post-credits scenes that had resounding effects on the MCU. From hinting at the introduction of Blade to bringing Kit Harington into the MCU as a possible Black Knight. Even though we have seen neither hide nor hair of Harington since, Blade is definitely happening. So one might wonder if Marvel was picking and choosing which things to point out and which to ignore. And that’s just not fair to the fans.

But finally, Marvel has acknowledged, in however small a way, the end of Eternals. It might not have been the huge reaction we wanted, but we'll take it.

Eternals is an MCU film about, as the title suggests, the Eternals. They are a group of immortal beings, manufactured by the Celestials, sent to Earth to protect its sentient life from creatures called Deviants. The Celestials are ancient galactic entities that roam the universe observing, categorizing, and harvesting sentient life. They are gigantic and extremely powerful. We’ve seen them a few times before in the MCU. One appeared as early as when we were still learning about Infinity Stones in the first Guardians of the Galaxy. We most recently saw two of them in Thor: Love and Thunder, when Thor made his escape from Omnipotence City.

But when Eternals really introduced us to who the Celestials were and what they were up to, we learned that the Eternals were meant to protect planets with sentient life on them so that eventually, the Celestials could perform something called the Emergence. The Eternals were protecting Earth because deep inside Earth’s core, there was an incubating Celestial, preparing to emerge once Earth’s sentient life generated enough cosmic energy for the Celestial to be created. Of course, once this Emergence happened, the Celestial, being as big as it was, would simply break out of Earth as if it were an egg. The whole planet and everything on it would be destroyed, and what you would be left with would be a new Celestial.

But the Eternals didn’t want this to happen. They had grown so fond of the people of Earth that when they discovered the Celestials’ purpose and the consequences of the Emergence, they decided to do everything they could to stop it. Now, it’s nearly impossible to kill a Celestial, but Sersi’s alchemical abilities allowed her to change the nearly-born Celestial completely into marble. So now there is a giant marble statue of a Celestial sticking out of the Indian Ocean.

Overall, the failed emergence doesn’t have many continuing consequences for the Marvel Universe aside from the fact that, yet again, Earth hasn’t been horribly, cataclysmically destroyed. But nevertheless, there is a massive marble Celestial reaching far into the stratosphere from the depths of the ocean. You think someone might have noticed.

But none of the Marvel projects since Eternals have said anything about it. Which is fine; all the other superheroes are usually pretty busy saving the world in their own ways. But finally, we’ve seen our first sign of at least some kind of credit from another MCU project saying, “Hey, this happened.” And it came from who else but She-Hulk.

One of the most connected superheroes in the MCU, She-Hulk regularly sees other heroes and villains in her series, usually in the courtroom. And She-Hulk showed us all that, yes, there is indeed a giant thing sticking out of the ocean via a clickbait article. But we were all too busy looking at the other sideline to even notice. Granted, the other one confirmed Wolverine's existence in the MCU, but the Eternals are important too, bub.

The small clickbait header said, “Why there is a giant statue of a man sticking out of the ocean,” so we know the humans of Earth-616 are, at the very least, aware of this massive 400-ton statue jutting into the sky. Will the MCU make any other jokes about the world glossing over this big event? It seems like something Deadpool would do. We’ll just have to wait and see.
